New Organization to Combat Salt's Effect on Health

Sunday October 8, 2006
194 medical experts from 49 countries have formed a new organization: WASH -- World Action on Salt and Health. This organization is dedicated to reducing the negative effects of salt on public health. One of the main concerns is the increase in blood pressure caused by high sodium diets. The organization is examining processed foods in different countries and finding the added salt varies from country to country. For example, processed foods in Australia tend to have as much as twice the salt content of the same foods, by the same companies, in the UK.
