Americans - Fat and Getting Fatter

Every generation lives a bit longer than the one before - until now. Kids born today are on the way to having shorter lives than their parents. The reason? Obesity.

The Trust for Americas Health released a study that show that Americans are more overweight and more obese than ever before. The state with the lowest rate of obesity (Colorado) had 17% of its population with a BMI of over 30. The state with the highest rate of obesity (Mississippi) has a whopping 30% obesity rate.

No state showed an improvement in obesity. The rate of obesity in children has tripled since 1980 with 25 million children currently obese. Obesity and being overweight dramatically increase a person's risk for diabetes and heart disease.
