Aging, High Blood Pressure and Your Blood Vessels

Thursday August 30, 2007
As people get older, their blood vessels tend to stiffen - causing changes in the circulatory system that results in age-related heart problems. A recent study in Hypertension showed that exercise can actually reverse that process.

Using detailed testing procedures, researchers were able to determine the flexibility of subjects' blood vessels. They then put older men on a three month exercise program which involved walking for an hour a day, five days a week.

At the end of the three months, older men's blood vessels looked years younger. The men in the study did not exercise before.

This shows that exercise has benefits no matter how old you are and even if you don't see changes in weight. So go out and start exercising!
