Kaku Yamanaka, Japan's Oldest Person Dies at 113

Monday April 7, 2008
Born in December of 1894, Kaku Yamanaka held the title of Japan's oldest person from February 2008 until April 8th, 2008. She was 113 years old and died of "old age." She was known for her love of singing, particularly karaoke contests, according to the Associated Press.

Japan itself has the longest lived population of any large nation with female life expectancy at 85.81 years and male life expectancy at 79 years. Part of the reason for Japanese longevity success is the island of Okinawa where people live longer that anywhere else in the world.
