Health Scare: Plastic Bottles Cause Cancer and Early Puberty

Thursday April 17, 2008
We've been hearing a lot about plastic bottles and a chemical in them called bisphenol A (BPA). This chemical is often used in the plastic bottles of babies and infants. Everything at this stage is very vague, but a new statement from the National Toxicology Program stated that BPA is "of concern" at current levels because of the effect on the prostate gland, mammary gland and early puberty in females.

In other words, it is possible that exposure to BPA can increase the risk for prostate cancer, breast cancer and early puberty. Basically, rats exposed to BPA levels that same as current human exposure developed cancer. BPA is also found in other plastics and devices.

Expect to see more debate in the future. The primary concerns seems to be with infant and baby bottles. Opt for glass or BPA-free bottles if you are concerned.
