Outrageous Elders: 60+ Body Builders

Thursday April 17, 2008
The NY Times (About.com's parent company) ran a great piece on people over 60 competing in bodybuilding competitions. Since 2000, the number of participants in the 60 plus categories of the major body building organizations keeps rising. These guys (it is, as far as I can tell, a guy thing) may have been atheletes in their youth or just retirees looking to make changes. These grease up, spray on bronzer and wear speedos just like younger bodybuilders.

Click on the comments link below and tell your story of outrageous elders.

I’m 63 and still get in the Boxing ring with guys 20-40 years old. If you work out and watch your diet you can compete as long as your mind says you can. You have to be positive about it or your wasting your time.

When I turned 50 I competed in a body and lifestyle challenge, never before had I even been to a gym or played active sport. I was never over weight or very unfit. the change was amazing and i now compete with guys 20 plus. I wish this challange was around earlier.now I feel fitter than I was in my mid 30,s
