Tool for Estimating the Cost of Healthcare

From Mark Stibich, Ph.D., About.com Guide   September 11, 2009

Let's face it, healthcare is expensive. The worst part is that you often have no idea what a procedure should cost or what portion your insurance will pay for. Of course, the best thing to do is call your insurance company -- but here's another option: a web-based healthcare cost estimator.

Of course, this estimator just works for facilities within the Geisinger system, but you can use it anyway to get a general idea of how much something should cost. Just pick any of the facilities and fill out the rest. Be sure to know the correct name for the procedure you need done and then see the results. Again, always call your own insurance company for a true estimate, but at least this will give a ballpark number quickly.
