Teeth and Aging

From Mark Stibich, Ph.D., About.com Guide   July 29, 2010

In a blog that I wrote earlier this week on Longevity Statistics in America, based on an article highlighting the report called Older Americans 2010: Key Indicators of Well-Being, published by the Federal Interagency Forum on Aging-Related Statistics, one thing really has stuck with me for several days.

34% of people age 85 and older have none of their natural teeth.

Among people living in poverty, this number leaps to 42% (compared to only 23% of those not living in poverty). Wow. I guess I had just assumed that "false teeth" were a thing of the distant past for this country.

I'd like to think that we have started taking oral hygiene more seriously in this country and that this number will be lower in the future.

I'd like to offer a couple of reminders of things to avoid, in order to help everyone out there hold on to their teeth (and keep them looking beautiful): 5 Smile Aging Habits

Thank you Mark. What a great article. A perfect reminder that smiling makes a difference. People who smile get approached more often, certainly in a networking setting.
I believe that healthy skin is an image maker but smiling and healthy teeth also make that great first impression when you are looking for a job or having a meeting with your board of directors. It certainly is a necessary component for youthing. Harriet@youthingessentials.com

While i was in my young age all of me teeth were not on the straight line, one was outside and the other was in.My cousin dentist tried to trim for beautiful smiling face. After trimmed the overlapping teeth my teeth looked so nice with smiling. The trimming period was nearly for 3 years. The dentist all his done the duty by slow and steady.Only trimming like this can do at young age.But i want to know why some people of wisdom teeth not come out with correct direction. This wisdom tooth hard to appear in the mouth for some peoples the teeth were under the skin with horizontal compact.Like this condition it better to pull out by taking with oral surgery. When they didn`t do like this surgery ,the wisdom teeth push the other teeth for serious pain.Wisdom teeth started to make the problem round about age of 25 to 30.
