Guide Review - Health Matters by Taylor Grant
I had the good fortune to interview Taylor Grant about this book. Her goal in writing the book is to make people understand that being healthy doesn't have to be hard. She has created a guidebook for people to increase their own health and improve their health care.

Grant decided to write this book after experiencing her own medical problems and those of her friends and family. She saw the need for a resource to help people learn more, make better decisions and take control of their health.

Grant presents concrete changes that normal people (in the midst of their busy lives) can do to improve their health. These changes include finding a great doctor, making healthy choices at home and planning for health problems.

The basic premise of the book is that people want to be healthier, but they just don't know where to start. There is too much information for the average person to understand.

Health Matters may be overwhelming to some readers especially if this is their first time thinking about their health. There are many self-tests, facts and suggestions to process. Readers should take things slowly and work on making one or two changes at a time. This is not a book to read and put aside, but more of a workbook to revamp your approach to health.

Health Matters is unique because it discusses how you can work with your doctor, ask the right questions and get more out of your health care. Grant spends time discussing the different personalities around health issues (like the ostrich, a person who tries to hide from health problems or the "chicken little," who sees everything as a health crisis). She works with the reader to transform him into a "Fox" -- one who cleverly obtains and assesses information while working in partnership with their doctor.
