Question: Can Low-Carb Reverse Diabetes?
Answer: The diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) contains moderate levels of carbohydrates. Some in the diabetes field wonder if restricting carbohydrate consumption further might even reverse diabetes. Men's Health magazine reported that the ADA diet was primarily constructed to reduce a diabetic's risk of heart disease, which is the number one killer of diabetics. Therapeutic nutrition for diabetes is an unexplored area. Individuals at risk for developing diabetes could benefit by reducing simple carbohydrate consumption and should consult a nutritionist.
