The Bottom Line
MyBrainTrainer.com offers one of the most comprehensive programs of brain training on the web. For a fee (around $3/month or less, depending on the package), you can access all of MyBrainTrainer.com. There is a 21-day program to get you started. Could MyBrainTrainer.com improve your mental fitness? Well, research in that area is still pretty new, but the rule of thumb is "use it or lose it" when it comes to your brain's abilities. This may be one way to "use it" for you.
Pros
  • Structured training for mental fitness
  • Wide range of programs and options
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Costs money
  • Unclear about the research behind the site
  • Benefits of "brain training" largely unknown
Description
  • An online website with a 21-day "boot camp" to get you started in brain training
  • Costs $9.99 for three months; less if you sign up for the year
  • Free 3-day "test drive" of a memory game and free monthly challenges
Guide Review - MyBrainTrainer.com Review
Mental fitness and brain training have been increasingly popular. MyBrainTrainer.com claims to be the "world's first and best mental gymnasium." The site (paid access is $9.99 for three months) has loads of tests, puzzles, games and challenges to hone your brain. You can take a free "Brain Age" test to see how your brain is doing and test drive several different free options before subscribing.

It is not clear how the site was developed or who is behind it. I had trouble finding out if researchers worked on the site, or just game developers (and still don't know). This is a problem throughout the "mental fitness" industry. The fact is that the research just isn't there to support some of the claims made. With any of these game-based system, the more you play, the better you'll score (just from practice alone). But do those improvements equal better brain health? Too soon to say.

MyBrainTrainer.com has lots of options with a wide range of training programs and options. Here a quick overview:

  • BrainMaster Challenge: This is the test to figure out your overall "brain power."
  • BrainBoard: A forum for members to chat and exchange tips, etc.
  • 21-Day Basic Training: A three-week program to get you started on training your brain in mental fitness
That's just the basic overview; there area a lot of other features and areas on the website.

Overall, the site is easy to use, and there are some pretty sophisticated results. You can even tailor training to things such as executive decision making and physical performance. If you are looking to try out an online "brain gym," this might be a good place to start.
