What is the NIA?:
Within the NIH (National Institutes of Health), the National Institute on Aging(NIA) is the primary funder of research on topics such as the biology of aging, behavioral and social research around aging, neuroscience and neuropsychology of aging, and geriatric and clinical gerontology. The Institute was created by an act of Congress in 1974 with the mission to promote broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life within the population.

The Institute website is an excellent source of information on the latest trends in research including research findings. Use this site to cut through the hype and get the real story from the people that fund the research. The Institute also publishes educational materials based on their research.
