Zimbabwe - World's Lowest Life Expectancy

From Mark Stibich, Ph.D., About.com GuideJanuary 22, 2009

Follow me on:

Zimbabwe is a sad, sad story. The average life expectancy for men there is 37 years and for women, 34. This is the lowest life expectancy in the world. Why is it so bad? Because basic health and other services no longer exist.

Bob Herbert wrote an op-ed in the New York Times entitled "Zimbabwe Is Dying." He talks about how cholera is rampant, basic sanitation doesn't exist and there is almost no health system left. Simple things like running water and toilets aren't available anymore.

Why is all this happening? Corruption and violence. Mugabe has been in control of Zimbabwe for years. There have been civil wars and destruction. Those are the factors that rob a country of life and make give it the lowest life expectancy in the world.
