My husband snores so I where the waxy kind of ear plugs..plus my c pap machine...I hear myself breathing in and out wiht the ear plugs..I focus on-my breathing and I am out.

Calming down before sleep.

Don't exercise, have a heavy dinner,or watch violent movies before bedtime.Have the bedroom darkened with curtains and don't use your bedroom for any other purpose other than sleeping.Clear your mind, and watch your breathing passively for about five minutes. Before you know it,you have dosed off into dreamland

Try to calm yourself

Sometimes I find it really hard and I am only a kid. I asked my mum what I should to and she bought me a pillow speaker which is very quiet but I hear it's calm words when my heads on my pillow and it stops stress

how i fall asleep

I used to just fall asleep eventually, but now I fall asleep listening to my iPod. Make sure if you do this, you make a playlist of songs you'd like to fall asleep to. There's nothing worse than being almost asleep, and then a loud, energetic song comes on and wakes you up :) I'm a Taylor Swift fan so I fall asleep to a playlist of her music. Sweet dreams!

Some of this article is outdated

Studies show that older people do need less sleep and do sleep less while maintaining a similar amount of alertness during the day. Although the amount is not a significant difference, perhaps a span of 45 minutes less is achieved through aging.

sleep

Isimply do not believe that 7-8 hours of sleep is what the body requires. I have not gotten anywher near that level of sleep in over 30 years and at the age of 69 my health is excellent. All my vital signs are much better than most people my age.

I just fall asleep

I sleep in my recliner. Using an CPAP machine. Wifes days off, she sits next to me and watches TV. I just put on my mask, lean back and the last thing I remember thinking is, "I wonder how long it will take me to go to sleep". Zonk, I'm out. Wifey want me to get her melatonin and all kinds of crap. I think she's depressed. Most days she'll sleep 14 to 16 hours. Then she want me to wake her to go to work. I quit doing it. Why should I have to set an alarm to wake me in the middle of my night, to wake her to go to work? Makes no sense to me. She hates alarms. And grumps at me when I wake her. I don't need it. I finally told her, "wake your own ass up". Menopause, they should tell you about this before you get married. 41 years of Marital Bliss. . .now I don't even know this woman. Cheers, otrpu

Mineral supplements to help you sleep

I take my daily dose of calcium and magnesium at night, I fall asleep soon after going to bed, and don't wake up as early as I used to.

Sleep Helper

I have two approaches. The first one is to take ten to fifteen deep breaths and release each one slowly. Another aide is to spray a pleasant fragrance on the hem of my pillowcase and sleep with my face turned toward it. Focusing o he pleasant aroma takes my mind off everything else.

Re - Relaxation Hint

I have occasional times of anxiety about family etc that keep me awake, no matter how hard I work. I have had success with ftworthsteve's hint and I use a CD that guides me through the steps when I'm too tired to work through the process alone - it's a calming and helpful CD by Bernice Todres.
